В статье описывается роль Бразилии в продвижении интеграционных процессов на южноамериканском континенте и запуске одного из крупнейших интеграционных проектов в Латинской Америке — Южноамериканского общего рынка, или МЕРКОСУР. Автор подробно рассматривает интеграционные инициативы, выдвигаемые Бразилией в период президентства И.Франку, Ф. Кардозу, Л.И. Лулы да Силвы, Д. Руссефф, особенности функционирования МЕРКОСУР и достижения данного субрегионального торгово-экономического блока в области интеграции. МЕРКОСУР имеет большой интеграционный потенциал и достиг значительных успехов, однако нельзя игнорировать ряд факторов, стагнирующих развитие региональной интеграции.

This article describes the role of Brazil in promoting integration processes on the South American continent and launching one of the largest integration projects in Latin America — the Common Market of the South, or Mercosur. The author conducts an in-depth analysis of such aspects as integration initiatives proposed by Brazil during the presidency of I. Franco, F.Cardoso, L.I. Lula da Silva and D. Rousseff. In addition, the article deals with specific features of Mercosur and achievements of this sub regional trading bloc in integration. Mercosur has huge integration potential and has reached considerable success. Nevertheless, one cannot ignore a range of factors impeding regional integration development.
